What will I learn?

Here are some of the things you will be able to do at the end of the Pre-Intermediate Course:

• understand sentences and common expressions related to basic personal and family information, shopping, where you live, jobs, your lifestyle, etc..
• ask and answer questions in a simple conversation on a topic you know about
• describe in a simple way your personal background and where you are at the moment and things that you need now
• ask about everyday things in a shop and buy items
• get simple information about travel and ask for and give directions

At the end of the Pre-Intermediate course, you will be able to prepare for the following English qualifications:

• Key English Test (KET)
• BULATS (20 – 39)
• TOEIC (225-545)
• Pearson Test of English General Level 1
• Integrated Skills in English (ISE) Foundation
• ESOL (E2)

The Course’s Story

There are new residents in Velawoods. Sara is Jeff’s daughter she came back from the USA with her daughter Jasmine and their friendly dog Rex.  You also have a new neighbour from Indonesia, Filza. There’s also a new student from Japan, Makito. Your friend, Karen, is still in Paris and her sister, Carol, tells you about Karen’s life there.

There’s a business course at Bob’s company. You, Nelly, Pedro, Carol and other people do the course. At the weekend, you go to the cinema with your friends from the business class. It’s Lisa’s birthday soon and you help plan a surprise party for her.

Hakan wants to travel across South America. He comes to Velawoods before his big trip. Also, you see on TV that people want new businesses in Velawoods. There are lots of different ideas. Nelly tells you about the problems with Jeff’s business. Can you help Jeff with new ideas for his diner?

In Bob’s business course there is a competition for a business plan for Velawoods. The winner gets £20,000. Someone from your business class wins the competition. Can you guess who?

You hear some terrible news on the TV about your friend. He’s lost in the desert. Will the police find him?

Pedro wants to ask Lisa to marry him, but he doesn’t have a full-time job. He’s working really hard to start a new business. And who is the new mysterious woman in town? Sara needs a new flat, but it’s not easy to find a nice place with a garden.
